South Africa: Herman Brown, who enjoyed considerable international success in his time as a trainer, has announced that he will relinquish his licence and hand over the reins to long-time assistant Frank Robinson.

Brown, best known for the exploits of 2008 Dubai Duty Free and Singapore Airlines International Cup winner Jay Peg, made the announcement on Thursday. "He [Robinson] has been running the stables now for many years and before that was my assistant for close on 28 years," said Brown, quoted on

"I will be keeping horses in the yard and will remain as an owner."

Alongside Mike de Kock, Brown did much to advertise South African racing with his success at the Dubai Carnival.
Although his presence has been limited in the last few years, he remains one of the the leading overseas trainers at the annual event, where Jay Peg provided a career highlight with a shock 50-1 success in the Dubai Duty Free in 2008.

The son of Camden Park also won both the Cape Guineas and Derby at home before being shipped to Dubai.

Brown also won the Singapore Airlines International Cup for a second time in 2011, with Gitano Hernando, who was formerly with Marco Botti.
