Willing Foe gunning for first Group race success

EBOR winner Willing Foe will aim for a first Group race success when he lines up in the Group 3 Grosvenor Casinos Cumberland Lodge Stakes at Ascot on Saturday.

The Saeed Bin Suroor-trained five-year-old will be joined by stablemate Songcraft in the eight-strong contest over 1m 4f.

Willing Foe finished third in the Group 3 Prix Gladiateur over just short of two miles at Longchamp on his last start having recorded a thrilling neck victory in Europe's richest handicap the time before.

Bin Suroor said: "Willing Foe won well at York and then ran a good race at Longchamp. He is working well and I think that the step back down to a mile and a half will suit him."

Songcraft stayed on strongly to finish a close third to another Godolphin horse, Retrieve, in the Listed Aqlaam Godolphin Stakes over 1m 4f at Newmarket on his last start and the trainer added: "Songcraft always tries in his races and deserves another chance in a Group race like this."

Among their rivals are recent Longchamp Group 3 winner Starboard, Royal Ascot scorer Camborne and Listed victor Hawaafez.
