Solitary King lands first graded contest in Tokai

Kyoto: Tokai Stakes (Grade 2) 1m1½ dirt, 4yo+
SOLITARY KING (Sei Ishizaka/Suguru Hamanaka) landed his first graded contest when defeating Nihonpiro Ours at Kyoto on Saturday.
A half-brother to nine-time Grade 1-winner Vermilion, Solitary King prevailed by a neck from Nihonpiro Ours with Silent Melody three quarters of a length back in third.
Wonder Acute, last year's winner and second to Smart Falcon in the Tokyp Daishoten in December, was favourite but finished only tenth.
The Tokai Stakes isthe most important prep for the spring season dirt championship of the spring season, the Teio Sho (G1 Ohi 2,000m). Solitary King will attempt to emulate Vermillion by taking this race.
