Slow ground predicted for start of Punchestown
THE Punchestown Festival is likely to start on slow ground with an unsettled forecast in the build-up to day one of the five-day meeting on Tuesday.
Racing manager Richie Galway said on Sunday morning: "We've had 2mm of rain overnight and we're expecting further showers in the next couple of hours.
"The forecast for the week is quite unsettled and it looks like we'll start with slow ground on Tuesday."
The going is soft, heavy in places on all courses with conditions on the hurdles, chase and cross-country tracks consistent throughout.
The meeting is set to kick-off with superstar chaser Sprinter Sacre, 1-7 favourite for the Boylesports.com Champion Chase, on Tuesday, while the Punchestown Gold Cup, for which Sir Des Champs is 2-1 favourite, takes place the following day.
