Sizing Europe could run in Champion Chase

THE Seasons Holidays Queen Mother Champion Chase has emerged as a possible target for leading novice Sizing Europe.

Unbeaten in four starts over fences, including the Grade 1 Bord Na Mona With Nature Novice Chase at Leopardstown last time, Sizing Europe is no bigger than 6-1 second favourite for the Irish Independent Arkle at Cheltenham in March.

Speaking on At The Races, however, trainer Henry de Bromhead suggested the Champion Chase was a realistic option for the Alan and Ann Potts-owned runner.

He said: "I imagine he'll go straight to Cheltenham now - that's the plan at the moment. I think he's as good [as ever] if not better. He may not have brought his A game to Leopardstown the other day but his wins prior to that were as impressive as ever.

"I imagine he'll have an entry [in the Champion Chase], that's why I said he'd go straight to Cheltenham and not the Arkle. He'll have an entry in the Queen Mother, but it's subject to Ann and Alan. I imagine he'll stick to novices, but you never know."
