STAR DE MOHAISON, the 2006 Royal & SunAlliance Chase winner, has been retired after failing to overcome his injury problems.
One of the sport's brightest prospects at his peak and talked of as a potential Cheltenham Gold Cup challenger, Star De Mohaison's injury woes began after defeating The Listener at Sandown in December 2006.
The nine-year-old made just eight subsequent racecourse appearances without recording victory and has failed to complete on his last three racecourse appearances.
The former Paul Nicholls-trained nine-year-old was on the verge of retirement at the end of last season, but connections decided to give him one last opportunity for current trainer Martin Todhunter.
However, on his first start for the yard at Doncaster on Saturday, Star De Mohaison was pulled up and the decision to retire him was taken.
Barry Simpson, racing manager to owner Sir Robert Ogden, said: "The purpose of running at Doncaster was just to see if we could bring him back but he came back sore in a couple of places he's had problems before.
"Sir Robert Ogden, Martin Todhunter and I spoke afterwards and came to the decision that it was best to retire him."
