Far-sighted Dunlop scoops Compiegne prize

France: Harry Dunlop was celebrating a plan well executed after Sir Patrick Moore landed a valuable conditions race at Compiegne, 65km north-east of Paris.

The son of Astronomer Royal made all under Christophe Soumillon to land the opening two-year-old contest over 7f from favourite Kamran, much to the delight of his vocal group of owners.

Having already won his maiden at Newbury, Dunlop can now look at stepping Sir Patrick Moore up in class again.

"The was always to buy a horse in France to come back with," said Dunlop. "We took him to Newbury for experience although he'd been working well and he's a nice horse."

Having granted permission for his name to be used, the real Sir Patrick Moore may need to train his telescope back across the Channel to catch a glimpse of his equine namesake.

"We half-looked at the Coventry but it's a big ask and I don't think we'll enter him," Dunlop continued. "I'd love to come back here for something at Deauville or else maybe a Listed at the July meeting. Because he's a French-bred the money we've won today is phenomenal, €26,000 with the premiums."
