Sprint success for Cecil as Tickled wins Abernant
Report: Newmarket, Thursday
Connaught Access Flooring Abernant Stakes (Group 3)
TICKLED PINK, a rare runner in a sprint for Sir Henry Cecil, dominated this event to defeat Jimmy Styles with plenty in hand.
Making all, the four-year-old travelled strongly throughout and was not hard pressed to score at 8-1. Hat-trick-seeking Move In Time, the 9-4 favourite, finished third.
Quick into her stride under Tom Queally, Tickled Pink showed a decent cruising speed to lead Jimmy Styles and Pandar, while The Cheka was forced to play catch-up after totally missing the break.
Entering the final two furlongs, Move In Time held every chance if good enough, but could never strike a serious blow as Tickled Pink smoothly repelled 20-1 shot Jimmy Styles by two lengths.
The winner, who is out of 2001 King's Stand Stakes heroine Cassandra Go, looks set for a rewarding campaign, having clearly thrived since landing her Yarmouth maiden last June, and Cecil will doubtless place her to best advantage.
Cecil said: "She's an improving filly and will have a Group-race programme. I'll just feel my way, but I thought she was worth running.
"She'll improve a lot when we get some better weather. She's going the right way."
