Munro lands Singapore
Derby on Better Life
Report: Singapore, Sunday
Kranji: Emirates Singapore Derby (local Group 1) 1m2f, 4yo
BETTER LIFE (Hideyuki Takaoka) came with a late thrust under jockey Alan Munro to win this S$1.15 million (£603,500) contest.
Munro, who landed the 1991 Derby on Generous, has been riding in the Far East since quitting Britain for a second time in 2011 and came with a perfectly-timed run on the filly.
Better Life had been slowly away in the 15-runner contest before Munro launched his challenge getting up to beat Wild Geese and Tropaios.
The Singapore Derby is the third and final leg of the Four-Year-Old Challenge, which also features the 7f Stewards' Cup and 1m Patron's Bowl, and is the second richest race run in Singapore.
