Grand National winner Numbersix retired
PLANS to give Numbersixvalverde a point-to-point preparation for this year's John Smith's Grand National have been abandoned and the 2006 winner of the Aintree spectacular has been retired.
The decision was taken by trainer Martin Brassil and owner Bernard Carroll after a recurrence of a leg problem which first affected the 13-year-old in October 2007.
Numbersixvalverde, named after Carroll's holiday home in Portugal, finished sixth behind Silver Birch in the 2007 Grand National and has not raced since.
In addition to his Aintree win, he won two of Ireland's top handicap chases - the Thyestes Chase and the Irish Grand National - in 2005.
