Stan James trim Jan Vermeer for Derby

AIDAN O'BRIEN begins the new year with the first two in the betting for the Investec Derby and both are single-figure prices with Stan James after Jan Vermeer was cut to 8-1 (from 10-1) on Friday.

The winner of the Group 1 Criterium International at Saint-Cloud despite Johnny Murtagh choosing to ride Midas Touch in the race, Jan Vermeer is still as big as 14-1 with Wiliam Hill.

St Nicholas Abbey remains clear ante-post favourite at 5-2 with Hills and Victor Chandler after maintaining his unbeaten record in the Racing Post Trophy in October.

The rest of the market movers were driven by performances at Cheltenham on Friday with Dipper Novices' Chase winner Seven Is My Number cut to 14-1 from 16-1 forthe RSA Chase by Stan James.

Sentry Duty, who toyed with Katchit and Mr Thrillerin the Freedom Hurdle, is 14-1 from 25-1 with the sponsors for the World Hurdle as other firms introduced him for the race at prices between 10-1 and 14-1.
