BHA suspend senior member of integrity team
THE British Horseracing Authority has suspended a senior member of its integrity team, it was revealed on Wednesday night.
Yogita Popat, whose title is security operations and project manager, headed a staff of 35. Popat, who worked under Paul Scotney, the director of integrity services, was involved in advising trainers and jockeys on ‘inside information' in the fight against corrupt betting and race-fixing.
The move was reported by the Daily Express on Wednesday evening. The paper learnt that BHA investigators had removed Popat's computer from her London office. It reported a senior BHA spokesman who"categorically denied" that her suspension had anything to do with betting or dating jockeys.
Popat, 33, joined the BHA in 2004 after seven years with the Hertfordshire Constabulary, where she held the role of intelligence manager.
