Septimus ride excites Heffernan

SEAMUS HEFFERNAN is excited about getting the leg up on Septimus in the Irish Field St Leger at the Curragh on Saturday.

The five-year-old won three of his four starts last season, ending the campaign with a hugely impressive five-length victory in the Doncaster Cup.

He seemed as good as ever when making a winning return in the Curragh Cupin June and Heffernan, who steps in for the ride with stable jockey Johnny Murtagh in action at Doncaster, believes his mount will be hard to beat.

"He is something to look forward to and he is obviously the favourite so itis a nice ride to pick up," said Heffernan.

"The thing about him is he is very genuine and we think he will handle the ground.

"I haven't ridden him in a little while but he seems to be working very well at home so I would be very hopeful.

"Johnny has been riding him in most of his work recently but he is straightforward."

Stablemate and last year's winner Yeats is not expected to take his chance in the Irish Classic unless Septimus is declared a non-runner.

"I'm not sure whether Yeats runs or not - I think it is one or the other," Heffernan continued.

"I would be very happy to ride either one of them."
