All eyes on Boys At Tosconova in Hopeful
Preview: US, Monday (22.22 BST)
Saratoga: Hopeful Stakes (Grade 1) f dirt 2yo
WITH the dazzling Kantharos retired after an injury suffered in a recent workout at Saratoga, all eyes now are on Boys At Tosconova (Rick Dutrow/Ramon Dominguez) in the Hopeful - the feature race on the final day of the Saratoga meeting.
Trainer Rick Dutrow told Daily Racing Form of his promising juvenile: "I get 30 or 40 babies a year. I haven't had one like him."
He said of Boys At Tosconova's maiden victory on July 2 at Belmont Park: "It as like when we watched (dual Classic winner) Big Brown run for the first time for us."
The Hopeful marks his first start since that maiden win, which followed a second in his debut at Churchill Downs, in the Grade 3 Kentucky Juvenile on May 3, Kentucky Derby day.
Among those set to face Dutrow's horse in the Hopeful's field of seven are Nacho Saint (Kelly Breen/ Javier Castellano), a closing second in the Grade 2 Sanford Stakes at Saratoga on July 25, and Wine Police (Steve Asmussen/Shaun Bridgmohan), an impressive winner in his debut, at Saratoga on July 24.
