Frontieres heads British raid on Irish St Leger

THE Jeremy Noseda-trained Sans Frontieres, winner of the Geoffrey Freer Stakes on his most recent start, heads a three-strong British challenge for the Irish Field St Leger at the Curragh on Saturday.

Final declarations for the 1m6f Group 1 were made on Thursday morning and Sans Frontieres will be joined in the eight-runner field by Godolphin's Kite Wood and the John Dunlop-trained Tactic, who won the At The Races Curragh Cup over the same course and distance in June.

Profound Beauty, who will be attempting to give trainer Dermot Weld a seventh win in the race, heads the home team's challenge, while Aidan O'Brien will be represented by recent Tipperary winner Flying Cross and Darley Irish Oaks third Lady Lupus.

Pop Rock, the 2006 Melbourne Cup runner-up and a winner at this year's Galway festival, adds an international dimension. The nine-year-old is trained on the Curragh by Takashi Kodama.

Rajik, who has won his last three races, two of them at Listed level, and who was supplemented for Saturday's race, completes the line-up.

The ground at the Curragh has dried out since Wednesday and was described on Thursday morning as good on the round track and good to yielding in the straight.
