Sandown optimistic of staging Tolworth card

SANDOWN is unlikely to be covered with clerk of the course Andrew Cooper optimistic Saturday's Tolworth Hurdle meeting will be able to go ahead for the first time in two years.

The going on the hurdles course was soft, good to soft in places, and good to soft, soft in places, on the chase course on Monday, with rain expected from Wednesday.

"We are due a milder, wetter spell midweek," Cooper said on Monday. "We can't have absolute confidence, but things look pretty optimistic.

"We are due a milder spell midweek and though there have been suggestions of a touch of frost later in the week, we now do not believe that will be a concern. At this stage, it looks as though covers will not be necessary."
