IALYSOS initiated a double for trainer Luca Cumani and jockey Christophe Lemaire when showing a fine turn of foot to lift the opening contest on Coral-Eclipse day.
The duo were also successful in the second race on the card where Acrostic reeled in pace setter Crackdown at odds of 7-1.
Ialysos always travelled well on the inside rail and it was just a matter of whether a gap would appear for the five-year-old.
Favourite Triple Aspect made his bid for glory swtiched from stall 11 to the outside of the field and briefly hit the front, but entering the final furlong the gap came on the rail for the ‘Greek Freak', who quickened up really well to lead close home at odds of 9-2.
Triple Aspect held on for second at 13-8, while early leader Masta Plasta faded into third.
Winning trainer Luca Cumani will be hoping for a similar result in the feature race where he saddles Cima De Triomphe, who will also be ridden by Lemaire.
Cumani said: "He did it really well and the jockey has given him a fine ride.
"William Buick said he was never really travelling at Ascot where they over watered and this going and trip has suited him better today.
"He'll gofor the Nunthorpe. I'd think he'd have too much weight for the Stewards' Cup." "
