Safety concerns force Ayr to abandon card
HAVING initially passed a 7.15am inspection, Ayr has been forced to abandon its seven-race card on Tuesday after the high winds, which were expected to abateby 10.30am, proved more damaging than first hoped.
The track survived the gales with only superficial damage, but the car park didn't get off as lightly, with the tree next to where the RaceTech scanner lorry is parked taking a severe pounding by the wind.
With several heavy branches now in a precarious position overhanging the parking spot, it was deemed unsafe for the RaceTech lorry to be parked under the tree.
As such noPA announcements would be possible at the course and, in the interest of health and safety, the track was forced to abandon.
The loss of the RaceTech lorry would also have meant a loss of pictures, commentary and all PA services, all of which the meeting could not be staged without.
