Alkimos stars in Godolphin treble
Report: Meydan, Saturday
Godolphin and trainer Saeed bin Suroor were in dominant form at Meydan on Saturday evening, providing half of the six winners highlighted by the victory of Alkimos in the concluding 1m2f handicap.
Settled well off the pace by Kieren Fallon, Alkimos, winning for the first time since leaving Luca Cumani, made smooth headway approaching the final furlong and swept past Jawhar to win easily.
Fallon said: "I know the horse well from England and here but was probably a bit further back than I wanted to be. They went quick enough though and he has weaved through some tiring rivals. This well help his confidence and he may have more to come."
Last Fighter initiated the treble when landing the 1m handicap in style under Silvestre de Sousa, who said: "I was always happy and everything went pretty smoothly. He should be able to progress from this."
Pat Dobbs was in the saddle when Mawhub won the 1m1½f handicap, the middle leg of Bin Suroor's treble.
"It has been a good evening and they are three solid handicappers who we thought would run well," said the trainer. "We have made a good start to the year and the horses are in good form."
Pat Cosgrave was also in good form, riding a double on Earl Of Carrick and Take Ten.
"He was a bit wound up last time and probably lost his chance beforehand," he said of Take Ten, Satish Seemar's winner of the 6f feature.
"The return to turf has helped him and he stayed on strongly. We went a good gallop and it was a nice effort."
