PAUL HANAGAN has further increased his lead in the Flat jockeys' championship after landing a double with his first two rides at York on Friday.
Victories on Polar Kite in a maiden and Rose Blossom in the Cuisine De France Summer Stakes propelled Hanagan 17 clear of Ryan Moore in the race to win the title.
A double the previous evening at Doncaster had prompted Coral to make Hanagan the 10-11 odds-on favourite to be crowned champion.
Coral representative, David Stevens, said: "A couple of weeks ago it would have been unthinkable that Ryan Moore would not be favourite to retain the title, but Paul Hanagan has a real momentum behind him right now, and although there's a long way to go, he's building a decent lead that could make him hard to catch."
Hanagan drew a blank with the remainder of hisrides on Friday, while Moore failed to register with any of his five mounts at Newmarket. Both jockeys are in action at York on Saturday.
