Ascot winner Defrocked sold to Hong Kong

BRITANNIA STAKES winner Defrocked will continue his racing career in Hong Kong after joint-owner Michael Buckley confirmed his sale on Tuesday.

A son of Lope De Vega, Defrocked won three of his five starts for Osborne, culminating in a short-head success at Royal Ascot from Abe Lincoln.

Buckley told At The Races: "He's actually been sold to Hong Kong. What I didn't know, not having had a runner in it before, is that the race [Britannia] is a bit of a famous hunting ground."

Though parting with one of his most promising Flat campaigners, Buckley argued that the sale made sense from a financial perspective.

"He was already a gelding and we've got to keep in business so that we can get the new horses in."

Buckley is a prominent dual-code owner in his own right, with the most famous horse in his white silks with black cap being 2012 Champion Chase Finian's Rainbow. His greatest Flat successes came with Toast Of New York, who was nosed out by Bayern in the 2014 Breeders' Cup Classic.
