Opinion gives formidable duo another victory
Royal Ascot: Report, Saturday
Duke of Edinburgh Handicap 1m4f
OPINION continued a profitable royal meeting for trainer Sir Michael Stoute and jockey Ryan Moore after knuckling down to register a gutsy victory.
It could have been so different for Moore though as he was a late substitution on the 8-1 winner after his original mount Rye House was withdrawn.
The Highclere-owned scorer gave Stoute and Moore their third victories of the meeting after the pair combined on Estimate (Gold Cup) and Hillstar (King Edward VII Stakes) earlier in the week.
Opinion was racing in a first-time tongue tie, which Moore helped adjust at the start, and after breaking prominently the pair tucked in just off the pace set by Sir Graham Wade.
Always near the head of affairs, Opinion kicked clear two furlongs out and victory was never in doubt despite 5-1 favourite Stencive making late gains under Frankie Dettori. Ustura (7-1) and Caravan Rolls On (11-2) finished third and fourth respectively.
Harry Herbert, managing director of Highclere said: "This is the dream and he had been trained for this race by Sir Michael [Stoute].
"We'll have to look at the Ebor for him and maybe even Melbourne in the autumn."
