Ceiling Kitty completes hat-trick in Queen Mary
Report: Royal Ascot, Wednesday
Queen Mary Stakes (Group 2) 5f, 2yo fillies
TRAINER Tom Dascombe and jockey Richard Kingscote, who teamed up for a pair of winners at last year's royal meeting, hit the mark again when Ceiling Kitty made nearly all to take the Queen Mary.
Dascombe also saddled fourth-placed Upward Spiral as the daughter of Red Clubs held on by a length from Hoyam, despite drifting right across the track in the final furlong of a £75,000 event run at a fierce pace.
Ceiling Kitty, completing a hat-trick after scoring on her last two starts at Kempton and York, was bred by her owner Andrew Black, the Betfair founder who is Dascombe's landlord at his Cheshire base.
She was sent off a 20-1 shot in a 27-runner field before stopping the clock just a tick of the juvenile track record at 59.18s.
Dascombe said: "She is a Listed winner and a Group race winner. We will have to give six furlongs a go. She wasn't stopping. She just seemed to hit the front and drift a bit left. It doesn't really matter as long as they win."
The runner-up Hoyam was a 10-1 chance, with Hairy Rocket doing best of the three Richard Hannon-trained runners when taking third at 11-1.
Also on Wednesday:
Sandringham Handicap (Listed) 1m, 3yo fillies
THE majority of the field elected to stay close to the stands side for the concluding Sandringham Handicap and that proved to be a wise move.
Duntle, sent off the 4-1 favourite for David Wachman and Wayne Lordan, just edged it in a tight finish from Arsaadi.
Ladys First did the best of those that raced on the far side finishing third, with Villeneuve filling fourth spot.
