Pulled muscle explains Navan's Chantilly flop
ROBIN OF NAVAN suffered a muscle injury during Sunday's Prix du Jockey Club which trainer Harry Dunlop feels was the likely cause of a disappointing finishing effort from last season's Criterium de Saint-Cloud winner.
Robin Of Navan still led the field with a furlong and a half to run and looked set to play a major role in the finish before fading to 11th behind 20-1 winner Almanzor.
"He travelled well and quickened but when he went to quicken again - as you have to in those races - he just changed his legs a number of times," said Dunlop.
"He has pulled a muscle running through his near hind which runs into the hock. It is hopefully nothing too serious and after some conservative treatment we should be able to reassess him in a few weeks with a view to an autumn campaign. He could be back for Deauville."
The son of American Post - who was sent off the 13-2 fourth favourite for Sunday's race - has earned more than €440,000 in prize money and premiums for his four partners, who include Peter Deal, owner of 1997 Champion Hurdle winner Make A Stand.
