Secret Gesture ruled out of Irish Oaks with knock
SECRET GESTURE will not take her chance in Saturday's Darley Irish Oaks at the Curragh after injuring a hind leg.
A general 4-1 chance prior to the announcement, the news was revealed by trainer Ralph Beckett on Twitter on Wednesday afternoon.
Connections had been hoping Secret Gesture could go one better than her effort in the Epsom equivalent but Beckett confirmed the knock would take her "a few days to recover from".
Lady Cecil's Riposte continues to be the subject of a sustained gamble, having been supplemented into the Classic for €40,000 by Khalid Abdullah on Monday.
Having already been forced to cut Riposte to 3-1 from 5-1, news of Secret Gesture's withdrawal led Paddy Power to trim the price further still to 11-4 and into joint favouritism with Oaks hero Talent.
The bookmaker said: "We've had to cut Riposte again after sustained support today. She looked very good when winning the Ribblesdale and punters are clearly hearing Lady Cecil who says that the filly has come on again since."
Speaking of the horse, Lady Cecil earlier said: "We're happy with her and she has improved since Ascot. We have liked her all year but the Oaks came too quick for her. You couldn't have asked for more than she did at Ascot but we do think she's come on again since then."
