Shifting Power among 20 in French 2,000 Guineas

SHIFTING POWER, fourth in the 2,000 Guineas won by stablemate Night Of Thunder on Saturday, could bid to give trainer Richard Hannon a second Classic success in just over a week after featuring among the possible field for the Poule d'Essai des Poulains on Tuesday.

Ridden by Frankie Dettori, he was sent off an unconsidered 50-1 shot, but stayed on to finish just three lengths behind Night Of Thunder at Newmarket.

The son of Compton Place was among 20 horses left in Sunday's Group 1, in which he could be joined by fellow British-trained runners Muwaary (John Gosden), End Of Line (Andrew Balding), Lat Hawill (Marco Botti) and God Willing (Ed Dunlop).

Ireland's champion trainer Aidan O'Brien may run Giovanni Boldini, Geoffrey Chaucer and Adelaide, while Charm Spirit - fifth in the 2,000 Guineas - could head a strong domestic challenge, which also includes last year's Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere winner Karakontie.

The Poule d'Essai des Pouliches (the French 1,000) also takes place at Longchamp on Sunday and 23 fillies stood their ground for that.

It has also attracted a decent potential raiding party from Britain and Ireland with O'Brien leaving in Palace, a filly he described as Ballydoyle's best last year only for a setback to prevent her running as a two-year-old.
