Decimal odds to go on trial at Ascot this month

DECIMAL odds will be on display on bookmakers' boards for the first time at Ascot on April 28 as part of a trial being carried out by Racing For Change.

Around five layers in the betting ring will show the prices, while the rest of the on-course bookmakers will display their odds in traditional fractions.

The experiment, one of ten initiatives announced by Racing For Change back in January, is taking place during the week of free admission to racecourses in order to allow RFC to gauge reaction from some of the new racegoers it hopes will be at Ascot.

Nigel Roddis, RFC's development director for betting, said: "We will be having a low-key trial at Ascot a week on Wednesday during the free racing week.

"We have four, maybe five bookmakers within the ring who will be showing decimal odds on their boards rather than fractions.

"We will do some customer research and get feedback to see how customers react to it. We will use that to then see if it is something that should be taken further."
