Ruby Walsh on course to return next month

RUBY WALSH is set to return to race-riding next month following a positive scan on his injured right leg on Wednesday.

The Irish champion jockey visited orthopaedic surgeon David Moore in Tallaght's Adelaide and Meath Hospital to learn the double fracture sustained at Down Royal in November was repairing well.

Ruby Walsh: "leg is healing well"

Walsh said: "Dr Moore was very happy with it, and the leg is healing well. I still have an outer support frame and I'm hoping that will come off early next month.

"It's still only eight and a half weeks since I got injured and so no one was expecting miracles. But I'm back driving, off the crutches and fully walking. I have been doing plenty in the gym and have been exercising since the beginningreally."

Walsh is 13-2 to retain his jockeys' title with Victor Chandler and Stan James but only 4-1 with Bet365, with Paul Carberry favourite at between 11-10 and 10-11.

Carberry is on 48 winners, one behind Andrew McNamara, with Walsh in seventh place on 30.
