Canford Cliffs: would be racing over less than 6f for the first time if going

RICHARD HANNON has revealed that the Prix Robert Papin at Maisons-Laffitte on July 26 could be the next port of call for his runaway Coventry Stakes winner Canford Cliffs, who is as short as 6-1 with Boylesports and Victor Chandler for next year's Stanjames.com 2,000 Guineas.
"The Papin is over five and a half furlongs, but I don't think anybody would dispute the claim that he would have won at any distance at Royal Ascot," the trainer told his website richardhannonracing.tv.
"He has come out of the race with no ill-effects. We will have a good look at the race before making a final decision, but I won it with Lucky Lionel in 1995 and Canford Cliffs is a long way superior."
Looking to the future, Hannon continued: "It will be Group 1s all the way now, and we are still contemplating crossing the channel again next month for the Prix Morny at Deauville (August 23) - Paul Roy, who bought a half-share in Canford Cliffs the night before the Coventry, won the Morny with Dutch Art three years ago, and I am sure he'd love to go back."
