Richard Hannon: hoping for no 'funny business' in race

RICHARD HANNON has expressed concern about the draw for Canford Cliffs in this afternoon's Sussex Stakes, with the dual Group 1 winner handed the widest berth in stall one.
The odds-on favourite now faces six rivals in the race after Beacon Lodge was ruled out on Wednesday morning through lameness, and Hannon is hoping that the there will no be problems with the Ballydoyle pacemakers, who are in the adjacent stalls.
Quoted on his website, the trainer said: "My jaw dropped when I saw that we were drawn one, and it sunk even further when I spotted that Beethoven and Encompassing, the second and third string for Ballydoyle, were in stalls two and three.
"Rip Van Winkle is in the clear in stall seven, and I hope that there won't be any funny business. We have no option but to rein back from that draw, but I won't be happy if I see Joseph O'Brien and Colm O'Donoghue doing the same. Our fellow is in great form, and we just want a fair race."
