USA: Leading rider Ramon Dominguez was in a critical condition in hospital on Friday night after fracturing his skull in a fall at Aqueduct.
Dominguez, 36, has thrown on to the dirt surface at Aqueduct when his mount clipped heels although he was initially diagnosed with just a bruise over his right eye.
However, he was later taken to hospital Jamaica Hospital Medical Center where the skull fracture was revealed.
His agent Steve Rushing said that the "next 24-48 hours are critical" to the rider's recovery.
Dominguez has been leading rider in the USA for the past three seasons winning the Eclipse Award for leading jockey for the past two years. He is expected to win a third at Saturday's awards ceremony.
The Venezuela-born rider set an earnings record of $25,582,252 in 2012 and partnered Little Mike to victory in last year's Breeders' Cup Turf.
