Ffos Las upbeat over Champion despite snow

FFOS LAS is upbeat about the chances of staging next Saturday's SIS Live Welsh Champion Hurdle despite clerk of the course Tim Long reporting the course to be under snow.

The race, last run at Chepstow in 2002, is the likely target for 2009 Smurfit Kappa Champion Hurdle winner Punjabi but the snow is not seen as a problem by Long.

He said: "We have one and a half inches of snow on the track but in the scheme of things that is no bad thing as it is giving a bit of insulation against the cold and it is not on top of frost sheets which can be a problem.

"The forecast for the week ahead is for temperatures to get down to zeroish overnight before rising daytime. We will monitor it as to whether we need to deploy sheets to protect the course."
