Snap Tie - Punchestown 24.04.24012

Snap Tie defies 921-day absence at Punchestown

Report: Punchestown, Tuesday

Boylesports.com "Official Betting Partner To The Irish Soccer Team" Handicap Hurdle (Grade C) 2m, 4yo+

SNAP TIE, having his first start for 921 days, returned to action with a bang as he stormed to victory in what was a remarkable training performance by Philip Hobbs.

The ten-year-old was having his first run since landing a novice chase at Cheltenham in October 2009. He was forced to miss the past two Cheltenham Festivals with leg problems, but he showed his true colours when he battled on well to score at 16-1.

Carrying top weight and on ground which his trainer had reservations about, Snap Tie moved into the lead off the home bend before he was joined by Benash over the final hurdle.

However, he stuck on bravely before stretching away to win by two lengths.

Johnson said: "He's a massive credit to Philip [Hobbs] and the team. We nearly had him back for the County Hurdle two years ago but he went wrong a week before the race.

"His owners have been so patient with him so to get him back and win is fantastic."
