MCR Hurdle reduced to 32 - but track unraceable
THE prospects of Leopardstown's MCR Hurdle meeting taking place on Sunday are under threat, given the bleak forecast for the remainder of the week.
The field for the €60,000 handicap, formerly run as the Pierse Hurdle, was reduced to 32 possible runners on Tuesday when conditions at the track were described as "unraceable".
Tom Burke, course manager at Leopardstown, said: "We had a light dusting of snow last night and a severe frost and we aren't raceable today.
"The forecast is not great going forward and we'll monitor the situation on a daily basis and take it from there."

Willie Mullins, who had ten initial entries for the 2m race, reduced that total down to four including possible top-weight Thousand Stars, who is joined by stable companion's Tarkari, Tawaagg and C'est Ca.
Noel Meade is represented by Arch Rebel, Asigh Pearl and Sweet Wake while Jessica Harrington has four entries - Colleoni, Gallant Light, Taravada and Turtle Time Lucky.
The course at Punchestown remains unfit for racingdue to a covering of snow before the scheduled fixture on Saturday.
The situation will continue to be monitored, although there is no improvement forecast over the coming days.
