Punchestown conditions more testing on Friday

PUNCHESTOWN officials expect conditions to ride at their most testing this afternoon after the track was given the green light to stage the fourth day of Ireland's premier jumps festival.

Officials called the inspection on Thursday in case they received more rain overnight than anticipated but the track was deemed fit for racing on Friday.

The going remains heavy and the first of five races - the Grade 2 Ryanair Novice Chase - is off at 4.55pm.

Racing manager Richie Galway said: "It will be very testing and, if anything, it may just take a bit more getting than yesterday.

"It is clear here now and there's a good breeze drying things up, and that is what will make it a proper test."

Galway added that the second-last fence - the first in the straight - would be bypassed in the opening Ryanair Novice Chase.
