Punchestown to inspect for Saturday fixture

PUNCHESTOWN'S racing manager Richie Galway is confident that racing will go ahead on Saturday, although the course will be inspected at 8am due to frost forecast overnight.

Speaking on Friday afternoon, Galway said: "Although it is a very clear day here and we are expecting the temperature to dip early tonight, the Met Office say we're looking at somewhere between -0.5C and -2C and if that is the case we won't have a problem.

"However, we thought it prudent to have a look in the morning just in case the frost is more severe than expected. We would have raced today no problem. The ground is heavy on the chase track and soft to heavy, heavy in places on the hurdle and bumper track."

Punchestown's card, set to feature seven races, is scheduled to start at 12.45.
