Punchestown and Ripon pass morning inspections

SATURDAY'S meetings at Punchestown and Ripon go ahead as planned after both tracks were passed fit for racing following earlymorning inspections.

Officials at Punchestown only announced plans to inspect the track late on Friday night and there was good news shortly before 8am.

Cliff Noone from the Turf Club said: "The course was found to be fit for racing and this afternoon's fixture will go ahead as scheduled. The first of six races commences at 2.40pm and the ground remains heavy."

It seemed less likely that racing would take place at Ripon after officials at the course reported water to be sitting on the track on Friday.

However, following a dry night clerk of the course James Hutchinson and his team have managed to remove the water and racing takes place.

Hutchinson said: "We avoided the rain last night and have managed to clear the water. We're calling it soft, heavy in places and the forecast is for an overcast day."
