Home Run could give Pipe birthday winner
HOME RUN could give David Pipe the perfect birthday present as the five-year-old bids for a sixth consecutive victory in the 2m1f novices' handicap hurdle at Taunton (2.50) this afternoon.
At Exeter on December 7 Home Run started his winning sequence off a mark of 89 and today competes off 124. He is a general 100-30 chance for the race behind favourite Mr Mole and could even be seen in action again at Newbury on Saturday, having been declared for the Grade 3 Betfair Hurdle.
On today's race, Pipe, who celebrates his 40th birthday, said: "Home Run is in good form but Mr Mole looks the one to beat. It was always the plan to come back to Taunton for this and Francis Hayes again rides."
Also at Taunton, there has been a gamble on Tarabela in the 3m½f mares' handicap hurdle (3.25). The ten-year-old has not been seen in action for 435 days, but she has been backed from as big as 14-1 into a best-priced 9-2.
