Mike de Kock triple-handed in Guineas trial
Preview: UAE, Thursday 3.15pm (live on ATR, Racing UK and Sky Sports 1)
Meydan: UAE 1,000 Guineas Trial 7f, AW, 3yo fillies
What they say
Mike de Kock, trainer of Mahbooba, Empire Rose and Reem
"They are three nice fillies and Mahbooba is a Grade 1 winner in South Africa. We are trying her on Tapeta but as a daughter of Galileo she may be better on turf - and she has to give weight to Chocolicious who beat us last year, while the Chapple-Hyam filly [Crying Lightening] is rated 104 and we have to give her lumps of weight.
"Kevin Shea won on Empire Rose at home over this kind of trip - she's a nice filly from Argentina who will be campaigned with the 1,000 Guineas and Oaks in mind. If she fails to handle the Tapeta we'll revert to turf.
"Reem's win was over further - her Australian form looks okay but we are still learning about her."
Herman Brown, trainer of Chocolicious and Quick Val
"Chocolicious won a Grade 1 in South Africa and is probably our best hope because she has been here longer and has had more work. I hope she runs a nice race - they are both nice fillies."
Eduardo Martins, trainer of Energia Cintilante
"She won well on her UAE debut but that was on dirt at Sharjah. The form has worked out well and she has improved since then but this is a lot tougher race."
Saeed Bin Suroor, trainer of Abtasaamah and Najoum
"It looks a tough race but both ours have been improving steadily in their work and have really enjoyed the weather. There is little between them but I would have to be hopeful ratherthan confident."
Peter Chapple-Hyam, trainer of Crying Lightening
"She seems to have taken last weekend's journey to Dubai fine. We are taking it on trust that she'll act on the Tapeta surface and it looks a hot race but she is receiving weight from key rivals and this race will tell us more about where we can place her."
