Willie The Whipper chasing Listed victory

ANN DUFFIELD is hoping for more success in the Listed Silver Tankard Stakes this afternoon at Pontefract, with Hamilton maiden winner Willie The Whipper stepping up in grade.

Duffield won the race in 2010 with Zenella, and this time relies on unbeaten colt Wille The Whipper, who won on debut in August.

She said: "He's very hard to assess because the horse he beat at Hamilton hasn't run since. He was very green when he won. He's going up to a mile here but we won this with Zenella, who had been winning over six furlongs. He is bred for a trip but he has got pace. It would be nice to see him run well."

The soft  ground at Pontefract should should prove no problem for Duffield's runner who scored on heavy, with rivals Top Notch Tonto and Pearl Whisper also proven on a slower surface.

There is also action from Windsor and Plumpton, while Tipperary are due to race though the course must pass an inspection at 7.30am.

Plumpton: Good to soft, soft in places (chase). Soft, good to soft in places (hurdle).
Pontefract: Heavy, soft in places.
Windsor: Heavy.
Tipperary: Heavy, hurdle and bumper card only, chases abandoned.
