Punters reacted to the news by steaming into the Charlie Mann-trained Tarquinius, who is a general 4-1 second-favourite for the big race, having been available at 13-2 this morning.

Mann was upbeat about the chances of his lightly-raced seven-year-old, who finished second at Warwick on his latest run.

The trainer said on Saturday: "He'lllove the ground and the trip, jumps really well and stays. He's quite well handicapped, has a light weight and must have a chance."
