Plumpton goes ahead after two inspections
SUNDAY'S meeting at Plumpton, featuring the At The Races Sussex National, goes ahead after passing a second inspection.
No frost has penetrated the ground, which is protected with frost sheets, and it was a matter of waiting for the sun and temperature to rise in the morning.
Mark Cornford, clerk of the course at Plumpton, was happy to give the meeting the green light following a second inspection at 9am.
He said: "The sun is up and my gut feeling is to give the meeting the go-ahead.
"The temperature is hovering around 0C having been -2C when we first looked this morning. It should rise to +3C and the sun is shining.
"We will leave the covers on the course until 10am and they will be off by midday."
The going at Plumpton is described as soft, heavy in places.
