Plumpton: Sunday's Sussex National card has been lost because of frostPICTURE: Edward Whitaker
SUNDAY'S meeting at Plumpton has been abandoned due to a frozen track.
Clerk of the course Mark Cornford confirmed he had little option but to abandon after temperatures dropped to a low of -6C overnight.
He said: "We've had thefrost protection covers down and they do a job, but after two very cold nights the frost has worked its way in there.
"Some parts of the track are not too bad but I pulled the covers back this morning and in areas where we are lacking some grass, it was seriously frozen.
"There is no way this is going to thaw in time for racing so we have had to abandon."
Despite the loss of the Plumpton card, which included the Sussex National, Sunday's punters can still look forward to all-weather action from Southwell and a competitive jumps card from Naas.
