Pounced to be entered in Kentucky Derby
USA: Pounced, who gave trainer John Gosden back-to-back victories in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf at Santa Anita in November, is to be entered in the Kentucky Derby later this month.
The son of Rahy, who runs in the colours of Lady Rothschild, was given a 20-1 quote by the sponsors for the Stanjames.com 2,000 Guineas after beating Bridgetown by three-quarters of a length in California, but could attempt to become the first British winner of the "Run for the Roses" instead, with the both the Guineas and Kentucky Derby being run on May 1.
Peter Shoemark, racing secretary to Gosden who was successful with Donativum at Santa Anita in 2008, said on Friday: "Pounced is likely to be entered for the Kentucky Derby next week, along with a few others."
There had been some speculation following Pounced's victory he might be a target for Sheikh Mohammed, but Shoemark added: "Contrary to some reports he has not joined Godolphin and is currently wintering here with us at Clarehaven."
