Flemenstar camp keen on Sprinter Sacre clash
THE long-awaited clash between Flemenstar and Sprinter Sacre may finally take place, with Peter Casey, trainer of the Irish three-time Grade 1 winner, stating all that is needed for the race to happen is for Sprinter Sacre to turn up at Aintree.
For much of the winter it was hoped the two would meet in the Champion Chase, but injury ruled Flemenstar out of Cheltenham where both the Champion Chase and Gold Cup were under consideration.
However with Nicky Henderson considering stepping Sprinter Sacre up in trip at Aintree, revealed on Friday by the Racing Post, the clash between the two could be back on.

"It [Sprinter Sacre running] makes no difference to us. We'll be there," said a confident Casey. "The Aintree race has been the plan for the past month and it remains so. Our horse is very well and once things stay that way we'll be travelling."
The similarities between the two make it a compelling clash, with both often found in front, galloping and jumping with a speed and athletic prowess that leaves their rivals trailing in their wake.
Cue Card is another often seen to best effect in front and should the three line up it would be a race to savour, with the trio all able to jump and travel at a speed others simply can't. However, Cue Card's connections took the Ryanair route to avoid a clash with Sprinter Sacre and the same could happen again.
"I'm not going to say we'll take him on and I'm not going to say we'll bypass him because I don't honestly know," said trainer Colin Tizzard. "It's something that we'll mull over for a week or ten days.
"With a horse like Sprinter Sacre, you'd be foolish not to take his plans into consideration. He's not like any other horse I know, he's the most brilliant horse I've seen."
