Perfect Heart misses
cut for Chester Cup

ROGER VARIAN faces an anxious wait to see if the Stanjames.com Chester Cup ante-post favourite Perfect Heart makes Wednesday's race, as the five-year-old missed the cut by one place.

As a result, Perfect Heart is now first reserve for the 2m2½f contest, which Varian's mentor, the late Michael Jarvis, won in 2004 and 2005 with Anak Pekan.

The weights have risen 7lb as the Aidan O'Brien-trained El Salvador was not declared, leaving Montaser as new top weight with 9st 10lb.

Ballinderry Boy, who had been as short as 12-1 for the race, was another not declared as a maximum field of 17 was left in.

The Listed Weatherbys Private Banking Cheshire Oaks is the other highlight on the opening day of Chester's May meeting, and nine fillies were left in.

Aidan O'Brien has declared Terrific, while Bright Approach, Pyschometry and Secret Pursuit are among her rivals.
