Dazzling dozen remain to do battle in Gold Cup

A SELECT dozen contenders remain for what appears to be one of the most open Betfred Gold Cups in years following Saturday's six-day entries.

Ante-post favourite Bobs Worth, along with Sir Des Champs, Long Run and Silviniaco Conti all remain, with Bog Warrior, Cape Tribulation, Captain Chris, First Lieutenant, Monbeg Dude, Sunnyhillboy, The Giant Bolster and Wayward Prince completing the possible lineup.

For the JCB Triumph Hurdle, Irish Saint, as short as 14-1, was the most notable absentee, though trainer Paul Nicholls had stated previously that Aintree was a more likely destination for the Adonis winner. Nicholls still has plenty of potential firepower, with Far West, Lac Fontana and Sametegal all featuring among 21 entries.

Challow Hurdle winner Taquin De Seuil, as short as 6-1 for the Albert Bartlett, now has the Neptune as his sole festival target, as the Jonjo O'Neill-trained six-year-old was removed from the field for the 3m race, for which there are a total of 34 entries.

Charlie Longsdon's Pendra also had his festival options whittled down as the five-year-old was removed from the Vincent O'Brien County Hurdle. A 14-1 chance for the County Hurdle, Pendra still holds entries for the Martin Pipe and the Coral Cup.

Brampour was left as top weight for the County Hurdle on 11st 7lb, as Petit Robin and So Young, were scratched, with 86 still entered.

The Martin Pipe is still massively oversubscribed, with 144 entries, while 49 remain for the Grand Annual. Last year's winner Salsify heads 34 entries for the Foxhunter Chase.
