Pearl plays the tune for Graffard in Yacowlef
Report: France, Thursday
Deauville: Prix Yacowlef (Listed) 5f, 2yo
PEARL FLUTE (Francis Graffard/Christophe Lemaire) ran out an impressive winner of a race which has launched several top-class careers in the past.
Carrying the yellow and blue silks of Pearl Bloodstock associated with Group 1 winners Dunaden and Pearl Lightening, the son of Piccolo provided Graffard with a first Listed winner less than nine months after taking out his license.
Lemaire settled Pearl Flute in third behind the pacesetting Style Vendome before unleashing his run inside the final two furlongs, going on to score smoothly by two and a half lengths.
"I'm delighted that he's confirmed what he's been showing at home," said Graffard, who was assistant trainer to Alain de Royer-Dupre before striking out on his own in Chantilly last October. "He's a very serious horse in his work and to show that on the course and win quite easily in a nice Listed race is great."
The Yacowlef is an unusual contest in that it is a Listed race reserved for debutants, whose winners have included Wizz Kid and New Girlfriend in the last decade.
Going further back Group 1 winning juveniles Machiavellian and Pas De Reponse also appear on the role of honour.
