Paul Hanagan: Three star horses for Shadwell

Paul Hanagan enjoyed a number of big successes as first jockey to Sheikh Hamdan at Shadwell. Here we look at three of the best:

Taghrooda (John Gosden)
Major wins: Oaks, King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes

A homebred filly by Sea The Stars, she gave Hanagan his first Classic success when winning the 2014 Investec Oaks. She was seen only rarely, winning her sole start as a juvenile, then at three winning the Pretty Polly and the Oaks before completing a remarkable treble in the King George & Queen Elizabeth Stakes. Although surprisingly beaten in the Darley Yorkshire Oaks, she ended her career by finishing third to Treve in the Qatar-sponsored Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe.

Muhaarar (Charles Hills)
Major wins: July Cup, Prix Maurce de Gheest, Champions Sprint

Excelled at three when dropped back to sprinting by winning his last four races at Group 1 level. Although Dane O'Neill had the ride when he won the Commonwealth Cup, Hanagan partnered him to win the Darley July Cup, the Prix Maurice de Gheest and ended his career with a triumph on Champions Day at Ascot.

Mukhadram (William Haggas)
Major wins: Coral-Eclipse

Tough sort who regularly competed at the highest level and gained due reward for his efforts when winning what looked a slightly sub-standard 2014 Coral-Eclipse and give Hanagan the middle leg of a fine summer treble. Went on to finish third to Taghrooda under Dane O'Neill in the King George three weeks later.
