Overdose: confirmed an intended runner in a 5f event at Hoppegarten
Overdose reunited with Suborics in Berlin
Germany: Overdose has been confirmed an intended runner in a specially framed 5f event at Hoppegarten in Berlin on Sunday, when he will be reunited with three-time German champion Andreas Suborics.
The Austrian jockey partnered the six-year-old to three Group-race victories in Germany and Italy in 2008 - and also when Overdose ‘won' the void running of the Prix de l'Abbaye in Paris that year - only for the race to be voided in controversial circumstances.
Overdose, set for his British debut in the Temple Stakes in May, Suborics was also on board when Overdose ‘won' the void running of the Prix de l'Abbaye in Paris that year - only for the race to be voided in controversial circumstances.
Overdose hasn't run since forfeiting his unbeaten record at the end of August and owner Zoltan Mikoczy said: "Andreas knows himvery well and he also knows Hoppegarten very well. He will be able to tell us what difference, if any, there is between the old Overdose who he rode in 2008, and the new Overdose."
The son of Starborough has not been seen on the racetrack since losing his much publicised unbeaten record on his 15th start in the Group 2 Goldene Peitsche at Baden-Baden in August.
After becoming fractious and delaying the start by eight minutes that day, Overdose could finish only seventh of 12 behind Amico Fritz.
"When he lined up at Baden-Baden last time he was having his third run in six weeks, coming after a layoff of 15 months," added the owner.
"We regret running him atBaden-Baden. His trainer Joszef Roszival believes he needs at least five weeks between his races so by running this weekend, it gives us enough time to get him ready for Haydock.
"If all goes well on Sunday he will come to Britain in the second week on May and stay over for Haydock and for Royal Ascot too, but first we must get Sunday out of the way."
